Capilano Suspension Bridge
Address: 3735 Capilano Road
Phone: (604) 985-7474

Description:

As Vancouver’s oldest running attraction, the Capilano Suspension Bridge has drawn visitors across its boards for over a century. It’s the longest and highest suspended footbridge in the world, spanning 137 meters (450 ft) across the Capilano River canyon at a height of 70 meters (230 ft). Cross the gently swaying bridge to reach towering evergreens, trout ponds fed by mountain streams, meandering forest trails and the Living Forest interactive exhibit.

Even if you chicken out and don’t feel up to the crossing, there’s plenty to see: native carvers at work in the Big house, a pictorial Story Centre illustrating the history of the area and an impressive Trading Post selling a myriad of quality Canadian souvenirs. Everything from ‘lumberjack’ threads and maple syrup to moccasins and Native jewelry. Best photo opportunity? From the 62 meter (200 ft) long cantilevered deck which grips the edge of the canyon wall. Since the Suspension Bridge is en route to Grouse Mountain, we suggest you make a combination day of it. But walk the bridge early, before the tour busses hit the parking lot and before long line-ups start to bottle-neck your crossing.
